Sonny Perkins leaves West Ham

West Ham United can confirm 18-year-old Sonny Perkins has left the Club.
Perkins, who joined the West Ham United Academy at Under-14 level, rejected the Club's offers of a professional contract.
The Club is now entitled to receive compensation from any club Perkins decides to join.
West Ham United invests millions of pounds annually into its world-renowned Academy of Football – and naturally the Club is extremely disappointed that Sonny has chosen not to continue his development with the Hammers.
The Club is disappointed with Perkins' representatives and strongly believe he was approached to sign for another club which led to him asking to be released from his scholarship at West Ham United.
West Ham United take this matter very seriously – we believe the rules and structures in place at the Football Association and Premier League should be upheld at all times.
The Club will be making no further comment.

Can’t really blame him. When we were desperate to change things up in an attacking sense in games last season, with no recognised strikers as back up, him and Okoflex must have wondered why they were even on the bench at all. That is even if they made it that far. Good luck to him.

Shame, I liked the lad what little I saw of him. And while I mostly really appreciate Moyes, his reluctance to play a couple of our youngsters from time to time when the team were dead on their legs, really ground my gears. Why the fuck would you stay when a) you know you'll hardly get a chance, and b) you'll get to play regularly with your new team.

Generally these things end up backfiring. I remember when Freddie Sears was the next best thing and being raved about. Don't get me wrong, Sears went on to have a good pro career but you dont go throwing big contracts at young players who havent proven themselves. Got burnt with Oxford and I think the club are more wary these days.
Another example of agents and greed.

he's been linked with leeds for a couple of months, not saying that's where he'll end up but it's a shame yet another promising youngster is allowed to leave

When this was first reported a few weeks ago it was said he had rejected a fairly standard first pro contract and he (or his agent) was looking for a contract more at the level of an established first team squad player.
Was also mentioned that a couple of clubs ... Leeds & I think Villa ... were offering him something like that after TAPPING him up.
If they do offer him a 'first team' contract the compensation should match that of a first team player.
Lets see how this works out for him

Good luck to him but very much doubt he will make it at the top level so I don't see this as a major issue... if he doesn't want to play for West Ham Utd he can fuck off.
